MVO’s FIRST Event – Supporting and Participating in the Dedication of the Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Hayward, California:

Saturday, 2 December 2017: It was a beautiful day in Hayward, California (in the San Francisco Bay Area) which made it perfect to Dedicate the GOLD STAR FAMILIES MEMORIAL MONUMENT at Lone Tree Cemetery. This Memorial was designed and the vision of Medal of Honor recipient Hershel Woodrow “Woody” Williams (Woody is a MVO Charter Member). “Woody” is a 94 year old US Marine who earned his MOH for combat actions in WWII during the Battle of Iwo Jima. Woody’s goal is to have at least one of these Memorials built in all 50 United States. This Gold Star Families Memorial Monument in Hayward is the 29th and the first in California and on the West Coast. Two years ago Michael L. Emerson (US Marine Desert Storm Veteran – MVO Founder/Charter Member) and his team of Paul Gravelle ( US Army Vietnam War – MVO Charter Member) and Mary Greenlee chose to donate their effort and time to found, collect the needed donations and build this Memorial to Honor and Remember the Families of our Fallen United States Military Heroes. This was a labor of love for them. We were please to have about 150 people attend the Dedication. Including Woody Williams himself, US Congressman Eric Swalwell, Mayor of Hayward Barbara Halliday, Gold Star Families Representative Kevin Graves, and Lone Tree General Mgr. Ray Ortner who all gave speeches. We want to thank all of the GOLD STAR FAMILY members who attended the Dedication, and everyone else. We also want to thank everyone who donated to the Memorial and helped with it’s build and installation. Other MVO Members who were at the Gold Star Memorial Dedication: Mickey Ganitch (US Navy WWII Pearl Harbor Survivor – MVO Charter Member), Chuck Kadlecek (US Marine WWII Iwo Jima Survivor – MVO Charter Member), and Domingo Cardoza (US Army Iraq Veteran – MVO Charter Member). MVO will always continue to support and put on events like this to honor Veterans and their Families. We send out our Sympathies and Condolences to all GOLD STAR FAMILIES and we Honor your Loved ones and your Family’s Sacrifice.
